Drew Estate is an American company, founded in 1995 by Jonathan Drew and Marvin Samel. They started their dream in a small shop with 16m² of floor space in Manhattan, New York, near the former WTC. Drew Estate characterizes by its quirky founder and owner Jonathan Drew. His mentality is different, creative and original. This gave him the nick name "El Gringo Loco". In 1998 he moved to Estelli, Nicaragua, and started with a few rollers and no money the story of "Crazy Gringo".
In 2004 the growing company needed a change en moved to Miami, Florida. At the same time Steve Saka joined the company. He lifted Drew Estate to a higher level en became closer to the dream of Jonathan. In 2007 "La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate" opened. With more than 8900m², it is the biggest factory of Nicaragua and it's in the top 5 of the world's premium cigars. At the moment they produce 94.000 handmade cigars each day.
In the begining Drew Estate produced a special cigars which was only for internal use, Liga Privada. Translated this means "private blend". They experimented with different blends, but only a few were favorite, due to the fact these cigars were rolled only by the best torcedores. They consit of seven different aged tobaccos from Brazil, Honduras and Nicaragua which give a perfect balance in construction, taste and character and results in a rich, complex and full bodied cigar with accents of coffee, dark chocolate and spices without being overpowered.
In 2009 the management asked if the torcedores would smoke less Liga Privada, because the tobaccos were very rare. That is way they developed their own cigar, Undercrown. An excellent cigar with a wrapper made of unique San Andres Negro maduro seed, specially grown for Drew Estate. The harvest is delayed by 4 weeks, on purpose, to give the tobacco plant more sunlight and time to mature. This results in a higher level of natural sugar which give these cigars a rich, creamy and light sweet taste.
Drew Estate noticed the Undercrown-serie was appreciated very soon. They would like to expend this range. Masterblender Willy Herrera was hired to achieve this. In the spirit of the original Undercrown he cooperated with the torcedores who made the first Undercrown. This team made a complete new light/medium bodied blend which kept the creamy, natural sweetness of the original Undercrown. The Undercrown Shade has a refined blend with a deep aroma for each moment of the day, which also the full body cigar aficionado can appreciate.
